Who is involved?

Local leaders Ken Wryn, and Julie Hamer, have joined together with the Library Board of Trustees , the Library Staff, and other concerned citizens, to create a new association: Estacada Library Friends

What is Estacada Library Friends?

The Estacada Library Friends are active community builders who believe that a good
library is essential to the cultural and educational well-being of our entire population.

Estacada Library Friends purpose is to enhance, expand and promote our library's services and resources to better involve all the members of our community.

Estacada Library Friends will focus public attention toward library services and other library related activities. We will strengthen and expand our library's collection of materials, and organize teams of volunteers to help with fund raising projects, distribution of information about our library, and to provide support to our library staff.

Estacada Library Friends will supplement County funding, allowing for special services and a wide range of materials that might not otherwise be possible here in Estacada!

WHAT IS BUSINESS WEEK?
Business Week is a time-tested program where
volunteers from the business community work
with small teams of students in a multi-day
immersion into business and entrepreneur-
ship. Using a 30 year old model (that is now
used around the world) of team-based business
simulations, workforce training exercises and
fun, yet competitive activities, students learn
the basic language and skills necessary to
complete, enjoy and succeed in business.

WHAT WILL THE STUDENTS TAKE FROM
THIS EVENT?
This experience will teach the students:
• The core language of business (profit and
loss, cash flow, investment, proper use of
credit, inventory control, personnel
management, regulatory compliance, tax
issues)
• The broader concepts, such as the relation-
ship building, balance of production,
marketing and financing efforts, supply
and demand and the core concept of
exchange of value.
• Business decision-making, developing and
marketing new products and, accounting
for their performance to stakeholders.
• Personal skills, including working as an
effective member of a team, leadership,
innovation, risk-taking, responsibility,
timeliness, personal presentation, respect-
ing diversity, self-motivation and self-
reliance.

reliance.

Volunteer Opportunities
Company Advisor:
We will need approximately 15 volunteers
from the business community willing to do-
nate a work week to serve as Company Advi-
sors, see schedule on the right side of this
brochure. The Company Advisor will act as
a facilitator to guide the team in finding
their own answers and solutions to prob-
lems, understand their individual roles,
meet deadlines, and at being successful as a
team. Every company advisor will be given
thorough instructions for the tasks at hand
and will also have an educational staff as-
signed to their team to serve as a support
person.

Judge:
The judges will be responsible for determin-
ing which team has achieved the best results
based on the given criteria. This level of par-
ticipation requires the volunteer to be pre-
sent the last two hours on Thursday 5/15
and the mid-morning two hours on Friday
5/16.

Community Speaker:
We are also looking for several community
members to give speeches (approx 30 min-
utes) to the students involved. This requires
only having a pertinent and positive mes-
sage to share with the youth.

Financial commitments
While we can lower costs approximately 50% with
in-kind donations, there is still considerable need
for financial donations. We are currently seeking
commitments of cash for this project. Donations
are to be made through the Estacada Community
Foundation, which has itself graciously agreed to
donate $1000 to the project and is a 501(c)(3)
(non-profit) organization making your donation a
tax deduction.

In-kind donations
Examples of in-kind donations are:
- accommodations for facilitators
- materials (arts & crafts supplies, name badges)
- student/team photos and covers
- t-shirts
- prizes and awards for participants
- printing and handbook costs
- notebooks
- lunch for volunteers and education staff
We are currently seeking in-kind commitments.
